About this blog & FlexWork

Purpose of this blog

I’ve worked part-time for many years and at different law firms, so I get a lot of questions about how I found part-time work and how it is structured. I don’t have all the answers for everyone, but I’m happy to share what I’ve learned and what I continue to learn. You are most welcome to comment on the posts about your personal experiences, even if they differ from mine.

I hope other moms can use the information they find here to locate and maintain flexible work arrangements to meet their families’ needs. I also hope that we, as a lawyer-mom community, can connect and support each other along the way.

Considering the complex and varied circumstances we all face, we can’t fairly judge one another’s career choices. From full-time partner moms to stay-at-home moms and everything in between, we all have mad skills that we use in our daily lives. This space is for advice, networking, support and applause. I’m so glad you’re here!

What is FlexWork?

FlexWork is a term I use to describe flexible work arrangements designed to meet family needs. The idea is to bend your profession around your family instead of the other way around.

FlexWorkT is a broad term that includes any type of work schedule that departs from the traditional full-time model. Most frequently, I will discuss part-time and reduced-hour work, but working flexibly can take many forms. For example, you could work full-time during the school year and less during the summer, or you could take an annual sabbatical from a full-time position.

In all the ways lawyer moms seek flexibility, let’s support one another and share how we flex!
